Peru
Peru’s interim President José Jerí has been ousted by Congress for failing to disclose meetings with Chinese businessmen just four months after coming to power. Gaza
The people of Gaza gathered in the ruins of devastated mosques and makeshift places of worship fashioned from wood, plastic and tarpaulin as Muslims around the world marked the start of holy month of Ramadan. Authorities in the Palestinian enclave say 835 mosques have been completely destroyed and 180 partially damaged by Israeli strikes. Many homeless families live among the ruins, including of the Al Hassaina mosque whose iconic dome now sits on a pile of rubble. Reuters today published a moving report speaking to residents as they did their best to mark Ramadan under near-impossible circumstances.
