Thing is, though, in the beginning he actually did have widepread support for his so-called war on drugs - I even personally met some Filipinos who were behind him when the killings were ongoing. But the tide turned for many when they saw extra-judicial killings taking place and poor addicts being targeted, not only dealers. It's a very grubby episode in the history of the Philippines.
